Travelling with the whole family is a heap of fun, and can also be challenging keeping everyone entertained happy, well fed and engaged. Cries of ‘are we there yet’, ‘I’m bored’, ‘I’m hungry’ are forgotten as we take you on a backroads farm adventure for all ages!
Travelling in our luxurious Kia Carnival which is (let’s face it) built for families, space is of the premium and car seats are easily fitted. Nan can access the rear seats without having to climb over grandchildren and bags, and Dad can stretch out his long legs in the front passenger seat, while Mum charges up her phone on one of the 8 USD ports in the car, so that she can catch up on her messages while we take care of their precious load.
First stop, well let’s burn off some energy going to explore a cave - all those steps, rocks to climb, tunnels to navigate, spooky moments with the torch, laughing at our echoes and trying to remember if they are stalagmites or stalactites. Mum is enjoying herself as your guide is keeping one eye on the kids, and the other eye that we don’t spent too much time underground as there is so much to see above ground. Quick toilet stop, issue out the snacks and back in the car for a short drive to a real farm, real mud, real chickens, real cows and an awful lot of real open space to blow off more energy. AND you can cuddle a chicken, and see where their eggs are laid, and get some seriously good chicken selfies to show off to your friends (yes eggs don’t just come in a box).
Now the serious stuff, kids food. Pancakes loaded with berries, cream, scones for Nan, coffees for mum and dad, and it doesn’t matter if we make a mess as the birds are nearby to pick up after us. Cram down the food as there is a mind blowing play ground that needs your attention. Again Mum, Dad and Nan can go off for some much needed time to themselves tasting local products and wine tasting while our guide keeps an eye on the playground proceedings.
With all the boxes ticked for a busy half day tour, we make our way back to the accommodation giving the little ones time for a much needed nap during the drive, before their next adventure at the resort pool or one of the spectacular beaches in our region.
